March 5: Sirens and Beethoven

Looking forward to this performance coming up next month!

The Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra (PEISO) will perform its third concert of the season, entitled “Beethoven and Sirens” at Charlottetown’s Zion Presbyterian Church, at 2:30 pm on March 5. Under the baton of guest conductor Karem J Simon, the concert will feature masterworks by two contemporaries, Gioachino Rossini and Ludwig v. Beethoven. The guest artist is the award-winning Charlottetown-based women’s choir “Sirens,” named after the singing femmes fatales of Greek mythology.

The performance will begin with Rossini’s An Italian in Algiers Overture, a work that, according to Maestro Simon, is “among his most widely recorded works, known for its comedic character.” The voices of Sirens, will then collaborate with the PEISO in performing Randall Thompson’s cantata, The Place of the Blest—a work known for its beautiful melodies, harmonies and simple textures.

Pianist Lineage!

I was going through some of my old music books from University and came across this handout given to me by my piano professor, Dr. Fran Gray! If you look closely, teacher lineage goes back to Bach, Mozart, Rubenstein and more. #pianistlineage

Studio Now Full

As the new year is upon us, I’ve had several requests for lesson opportunities. My studio is completely full at this time! If you are looking for a music teacher, please consult with the PEI Registered Music Teacher’s website – you will find a complete listing of qualified teachers across the province.

If you are interested in working with me specifically, it looks like I will have a few openings for Summer and Fall 2017. Please contact me directly so I can add you to a waiting list.

All the best in 2017!!!

2 openings available!

Like every fall, it takes a month or two before a teaching schedule settles into a groove – I am almost there, but a couple of times have become available:

Mondays @ 4:00pm and Tuesdays @ 3:30pm

Please send me a note if you are interested in piano or voice lessons!

2016-17 schedule is now full!

I happy to say that my studio for the 2016-17 is now full! Last week I had the opportunity to connect with my returning students, as well as meeting my new cohort of vocalists and pianists. I am very much looking forward to lots of music-making this school year.

If you are interested in lessons for the future, please contact me directly as I will be starting a waiting list in the chance that a time slot will become available, or if scheduling is possible for the 2017-18 school year.

My unofficial studio mascot, Bernie, is pleased to say his human has a full teaching schedule for this school year!

Hamonia Girls’ Choir

I am so pleased to be joining my musical colleague, Kelsea McLean, in helping to lead Harmonia Girls’ Choir (I will be at the piano!). Kelsea is such an enthusiastic leader, and is constantly seeking out professional development opportunities to better her conducting skills…the ensemble will be in good hands with her at the helm!

If your daughters are interested in singing, but not quite ready for voice lessons, choral settings are a fantastic way to build confidence (that’s where I got my start singing). The choir is for girls 12-18, and tuition is only $100 for the year.
